Wednesday Ratings: CBS was the People’s Choice

Despite strong performances from (most of) ABC’s comedies and SVU, viewers made CBS their choice last night. Yesterday’s People’s Choice Awards broadcast earned its best demos and viewers since 2007.
8pm
- A new edition of I Get That a Lot (2.9/8 in 18-49) brought in 8.5 million for CBS.
- An early edition of The Middle (2.2/6) raised 7.5 million; the comedy’s second half hour (8.2 million, 2.7/7) hit season highs.
- Mercy (7.3 million, 1.7/5) sunk to a demo low.
- A Glee* repeat (1.3/4) had 3.4 million singing.
- One Tree Hill* (0.4/1) dialed up 895,000.

MONDAY (1/4)
- Heroes (NBC, 8pm): “Hiro launches a rescue mission but has trouble communicating with Ando about it.” Hiro stopped paying attention to the program a long time ago.
- Conveyor Belt of Love (ABC, 10pm): Series premiere. “A not-quite fly-by romance contest in which five women check out 30 men on a conveyor belt. The belt stops for 60 seconds to enable the guys to make to make their cases, and if two girls pick the same guy, he gets to choose.” Conveyor belt matches at sushi restaurants will become the new speed dating at bars.
- Hoarders (A&E, 10pm): “A beekeeper manages his business, but his home is unkempt.” Those worker bees aren’t great at multitasking.

Now that we’ve made halfway through the television season, it’s time to readjust our DVRs once again.
Midseason staples returning to the airwaves include American Idol, 24 and Lost. Meanwhile, a number of new programs - including Human Target, Parenthood and The Marriage Ref - will vie for our attention.
Hopefully our detailed guide can assist you in the weeks to come. We have compiled information from the five major networks and included the days, times and premiere dates for this season’s programs.

Wednesday Ratings: ABC Not as Fascinating as CBS

Note to Barbara Walters: Maybe you shouldn’t reveal your fascinating list before the show actually airs? Despite drawing over 10 million last night for the annual special, ABC - along with FOX - lost out to CBS in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- Shrek the Halls* (2.6/8 in 18-49) had 8.5 million laughing…again.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (7.5 million, 2.2/7) had its best audience of the season.
- The Middle (2.5/7) roped in 7.6 million.
- Gary Unmarried (2.4/7) turned in 7 million.
- Mercy (1.8/5) also registered 7 million.
- So You Think You Can Dance (2.3/7) saw 6.6 million tune in.

- Lie to Me (FOX, 9pm): “Cal, Foster and Reynolds go all in to find a missing finalist from the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, where Cal must determine if the other players are being straight with him about the disappearance.” The MIA player later resurfaced after making a royal flush.
- Hoarders (A&E, 10pm): Season premiere. “The opener follows the efforts of an adult son to help his mother, a hoarder whose compulsive behavior led to the son’s removal from the home 14 years earlier.” He was sent away with enough underwear to last him a lifetime.

Wednesday Ratings: The Middle Better Off Post-Hank

Sorry, Kelsey - but you were just replaced by a repeat. A repeat (Modern Family) that did better than your last appearance. A repeat that helped its lead-out (The Middle) pick up an additional 1 million over its previous outing.
8pm
- Mercy (7.8 million, 2.0/6 in 18-49) took in another million.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (7.5 million, 2.2/7) did about the same; Gary Unmarried (7.2 million, 2.5/7) lost 500,000.
- A Modern Family* repeat (6.2 million, 1.9/6) did 900,000 better than Hank; The Middle (7.1 million, 2.4/7) was helped by its new lead-in.
- Dancing with the Stars (5.7 million, 2.1/6) picked up 200,000.
- Approximately 3.7 million caught the America’s Next Top Model finale (1.7/5).

Last night’s baseball game ended in a victory for both the New York Yankees and the network. Wednesday’s finale helped bring the overall series average to 19.4 million viewers.

- Game 6 of the World Series (7.4/20 in 18-49) drew in 22.3 million.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (2.1/6) was good for 7 million; Gary Unmarried (2.0/5) registered 6.7 million.
- Mercy (1.7/5) checked in 6.6 million.
- Hank (1.4/4) nailed down 5.3 million; The Middle (2.0/5) drummed up 6.1 million.
- America’s Next Top Model (4 million, 1.7/5) raised 500,000 more.

Wednesday Ratings: World Series a Grand Slam for FOX

Game 1 of the World Series was easily a knockout for FOX—but it also did well for ABC. Although it was a distant second in the viewers, the Alphabet network saw its audience numbers go up thanks to original counterprogramming.
8pm
- Last night’s World Series game (19.5 million, 6.3 rating in 18-49) had the best numbers for an opener in five years.
- Monsters vs. Aliens (2.2/6) pulled in 6.9 million for NBC; a second showing (5.6 million, 1.9/5) did 1.3 million less.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine* (6.6 million, 1.6/5) lost 400,000; Gary Unmarried* (6.4 million, 1.7/5) did the same.
- It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown* (6.3 million, 2.0/6) did 500,000 better than last week’s Hank; The Middle (6.6 million, 2.2/6) picked up 200,000.
- America’s Next Top Model (3.5 million, 1.6/4) reached a season high demo.
